Miles and Lillian Cahn, The Coach Dairy Goat Farm

In the mid-1980's, Miles and Lillian Cahn, founders/owners of Coach Leatherware, were in their mid-60's and at the peak of success designing and manufacturing the highly popular Coach Bags. While most people at this stage in life would not seek change, the Cahn left the industry and New York City for rural upstate New York and a life of cheesemaking. Their goat herd quickly grew to over 1,000 Alpine goats and the cheese produced in their onsite creamery gained a reputation for its freshness, purity and flavor.

Peter DeBeukelaer, Pirouline Baking Company

In 1984, 3rd generation Belgium baker Peter DeBeukelaer, seeking the American dream, moved to Mississippi and founded Pirouline, an innovative cookie company. Pirouline cookies are slowly toasted rolled wafers filled with cremes and sealed with an iconic and cylindrical stripe. Peter introduced a range of technical and baking innovations including the trademarked swirl on the rolled wafers. Today, Pirouline is still a family business and are produced in a 115,000-square-foot baking facility that supports 200-plus team members.

Scott Goldshine, Zabar’s

Scott Goldshine is an icon inside a New York shrine – the longtime general manager of Zabar's, the family-owned specialty food institution founded on Manhattan's Upper West Side in 1934. A native New Yorker, Scott began working at Zabar's in 1977, learning the trade and the store's traditions under brothers Saul and Stanley Zabar and co-owner Murray Klein. Scott has safeguarded Zabar's legacy and world-famous standards of excellence and customer service with innovations in marketing and artisanal selection, leading a staff that still reflects the neighborhood spirit and energy of New York City.
